St. Peter Health’s Melissa Reed and Paul Lee Recognized for Exceptional Care

May 24, 2018

Melissa Reed, LPN, and Paul Lee, RN, were recognized as DAISY award winners for Extraordinary Nurses of 2018. DAISY winners are selected quarterly from nominations submitted by St. Peter’s Health patients and their family members.

Reed is a licensed practical nurse at St. Peter’s Health Medical Group - Broadway Clinic, and has been with the organization since 2015. Those who nominated Reed noted the extraordinary lengths she goes to ensure the best care for her patients, and shared appreciation of her selflessness, kindness and extreme humility. The patient who nominated Reed shared a story of Reed’s willingness to go above and beyond to ensure the patient wouldn’t miss an appointment. After a winter storm, Reed sent her husband to the patient’s home to use a snow plow to clear not only the driveway, but also the alley. According to the nomination form the patient was “beyond grateful that Melissa took it upon herself to check up on her.”

Lee is a nurse at the Intensive Care Unit at St. Peter’s Health, and has been with the organization since 2008. He received numerous nominations, which noted the excellent, kind, attentive and empathetic care he provides each patient. A patient’s family member who nominated Lee wrote that he is “extremely caring and compassionate…With all he has going on, he continued to ask if there was anything he can get for us! Truly a great nurse!”

The DAISY Award (daisyfoundation.org) was established to honor the super-human work nurses do in direct care of patients and families every day. It is presented in collaboration with The American Organization of Nurse Executives. St. Peter’s Health administration and staff select the winner from those nominated. Recipients receive a certificate and a sculpture called A Healer’s Touch, hand-carved by artists of the Shona Tribe in Africa.
